Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates — 27 September 2022: The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted a dinner on the eve of the 9th annual U.S.-U.A.E. Economic Policy Dialogue (EPD). The event brought leaders from U.S. and U.A.E. industry together with government delegations for a substantive discussion on key policy matters and issues in the bilateral relationship. Following the working dinner on the 27th, senior officials representing MoFAIC and the U.S. Department of State are slated to host government-to-government meetings involving various ministries and departments on 28 September in Abu Dhabi.

U.S. Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Sean Murphy, and Deputy Director of MoFAIC’s Economic and Trade Affairs Department Ahmed Bu Rhaima joined U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council President Danny Sebright, key industry representatives, and other government officials to lead a conversation on business policies, major themes of the EPD, and the overall U.S.-U.A.E. relationship.

Conversation centered on four key themes flagged by both government and industry: Digital Policies, COP 28, Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and Aluminum Tariffs. The floor was then opened to the senior executives in attendance to query both delegations on other issues industry considers most pressing. Inaugurated in 2012, the EPD serves as an annual platform for both governments to discuss bilateral trade and investment opportunities and to facilitate a more cooperative business environment and best practices. Key U.A.E. and U.S. officials lauded the work of the EPD over the years in helping resolve outstanding policy questions in a number of areas and in moving the overall investment, trade, and business relationship forward.

The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council has from the first meeting of the EPD worked very closely with both governments to provide real-time industry perspectives on issues and opportunities in the bilateral relationship that could then better inform the discussions and proceedings of the bilateral government dialogue.
