The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted a panel discussion at Expo 2020 Dubai on Monday, March 21st focused on the greatest challenges the world faces in preserving and protecting water and the collective actions that might be taken to address these challenges. This panel was the 7th in a series of business forums over the past 6 months at the U.S. Pavilion at Expo 2020 that have each coincided with a different Expo theme week. Please see here and below for a recording of the event.
In their opening remarks, U.S. Commissioner General at Expo 2020 Bob Clark, and U.S. Consul General in Dubai Meghan Gregonis, lauded the work of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council over the past 6 months to support the U.S. Pavilion, and showcase American innovation to the world.
Fadi Sbaiti, U.A.E. General Manager at AeroFarms, explained that AeroFarms’ aeroponics indoor farming technology includes water conservation at its core, by using 95% less water when growing food than traditional agriculture. He also detailed the company’s latest developments in indoor farming and agtech innovations including its construction of a state-of-the-art research center in Abu Dhabi.

Susan Moisio, Global Water Markets Director at Jacobs, discussed the various technologies under development and in use at Jacobs in the realm of water conservation. She also discussed the OneWater approach of which she is a proponent and how this influenced her work. In short, with no new water sources on Earth, communities cannot afford to waste such a precious resource as water.

Finally, Naji Skaf, Managing Director for the Middle East and Turkey at Xylem, explained the ways in which Xylem’s products and services help countries such as the U.A.E. which face water scarcity. Naji also discussed Xylem’s new technologies in the realm of water conservation and how these technologies will work to ensure water security for the future. This is all part of Xylem’s commitment to “solve water.”
