U.S.-U.A.E. Defense Relationship
The United Arab Emirates and the United States share a common resolve to preserve security and stability in the Middle East and around the world. By working closely with the U.S. and other international partners, the U.A.E. demonstrates its commitment to confront, degrade and eradicate terrorism and extremism. As part of its efforts to enhance global security, the U.A.E. is a leading member of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL and is the only Arab country to have participated in six U.S.-led coalition actions, beginning with the First Gulf War.
U.S. defense companies recognize the U.A.E.’s regional leadership and capabilities, resulting in numerous strategic partnerships between the U.A.E.-U.S. across the defense and aerospace industry worth billions of dollars per year. Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon – key founders of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council – have been joined by a diverse group of U.S. and Emirati large- and mid-sized aerospace and defense firms that serve as the backbone of the bilateral defense and security relationship.
Expanding the bilateral defense and aerospace relationship is a major priority for the Business Council. The Council actively works to identify new opportunities and partnerships for its members, provide access to high-level stakeholders in both the U.A.E. and U.S. defense and aerospace industries, and facilitate productive defense-related negotiations between the two countries.
Examples of related Council activities include, but are not limited to: defense trade missions to introduce small- and medium-sized American companies to the U.A.E. defense sector; significant involvement and support for the annual International Defense Exhibition and the bi-annual Dubai Air Show, both held in the U.A.E.; providing a platform for senior U.S. government officials to discuss the strategic bilateral military and commercial defense relationship; introducing U.S. audiences to the new Emirates Defense Industries Company; and, facilitating engagement between Emirati defense and aerospace companies with U.S. counterparts and stakeholders.Back to Policy Initiatives
