The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted a roundtable breakfast and discussion in Washington, D.C. with Mr. Shakir Farsakh, the incoming Principal Commercial Officer in Dubai. Mr. Farsakh was welcomed by the Washington business community as well as multiple representatives from the Trade and Commercial Office at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Farsakh’s objective at this exclusive meeting was to introduce himself to Business Council members,  provide an overview of his new role, and hear directly from the participating companies about their work in the Emirates and related opportunities or concerns.

“I would like to thank the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council for bringing us together here today so that I can hear directly from you and you can help me shape my priorities and objectives in the U.A.E. starting this August,” said Shakir Farsakh. “You will have the satisfaction of knowing that what you tell me here today will be uppermost in my thoughts as I create my strategic plan for the coming year.”

Among the issues of interest to participating companies were new U.A.E. and GCC Value Added Tax and Excise Taxes, synchronization of standards across the U.A.E. and GCC, and Expo 2020 Dubai.

“The U.S.-U.A.E. business and commercial relationship is one of the healthiest of all U.S. commercial relationships,” said Danny Sebright, President of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council. “The U.S. trade balance with the U.A.E. has continued to buck the trend of chronic U.S. deficits, and Shakir’s role is critical in making sure that opportunities are explored and concerns are addressed in order to grow the relationship between the two countries even further.”
