This evening, at the International Institute for Strategic Studies 7th Annual Manama Dialogue, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton addressed world leaders and delegates, speaking about the United Arab Emirates’ (U.A.E.) status in the region and in the world.

Secretary Clinton referred to the U.A.E. as “not just a Gulf partner, but a global partner,” underscoring the country’s increasingly significant relationship to the U.S. and position as a key player on the global stage.  She noted that as the host country of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and by promoting the MASDAR initiative, the U.A.E. has assumed an important role in promoting global security.

Secretary Clinton called for special attention to be brought to the U.A.E. regarding its efforts in Afghanistan, which include assisting with military and humanitarian actions.

Moreover, Secretary Clinton commended the U.A.E. on the steps the country is taking to pursue “only the peaceful benefits of nuclear energy”, effectively “serving to strengthen the global non-proliferation regime.”
