Senior business executives from U.S.-U.A.E technology companies discussed the future of healthcare delivery after Covid-19 during a videoconference on May 5th hosted by the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council. This webinar was part of the Business Council’s videoconference series titled “Looking Ahead: Conversation s with U.S. and U.A.E. Business and Government Leaders”. The webinar, titled “Keeping Us Healthy: The Transformative Power of Healthcare IT during the Coronavirus Pandemic”, focused on the integration of hospital technology using AI and IOT, telemedicine, Health Information Exchange systems, data privacy and security, and how this pandemic might impact the healthcare IT industry in the medium and long term.
Mr. Danny Sebright, President of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, welcomed speakers and attendees to the call and praised the work of American and Emirati hospitals and companies, which continue to provide lifesaving healthcare services and solutions during this unprecedented time.
Mr. Hasan Al Nowais, Senior Vice President of Mubadala Healthcare; Mr. Atif Al Braiki, CEO of Malaffi; Mr. Alaa Adel, Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa at Cerner; Mr. Bashar Kilani, Region Executive for the Middle East at IBM; Ms. Dina Tamimi, Director of Smart Cities, Verticals & Strategic Accounts at Honeywell provided opening remarks covering topics across their respective business verticals.
The speakers offered their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities Covid-19 presents for healthcare technology and how the virus might affect the U.A.E.’s healthcare sector writ large in the coming months. Specifically, the panelists discussed the increasing adoption of telemedicine and other health management solutions and how they empower healthcare professionals and patients alike. The speakers also discussed about the importance of Health Information Exchange systems, data analytics, and machine learning capabilities for healthcare providers. Mr. Al Nowais and Mr. Al Braiki highlighted some of the extraordinary and innovative measures that their companies have taken to help U.A.E. authorities fight Covid-19 and protect U.A.E. citizens and residents alike. They expressed strong appreciation for the partherships that they have with various American firms. Mr. Kilani highlighted IBM’s new paper titled “Beyond the Great Lockdown, emerging stronger to a different normal“.
Subsequently, the panelists engaged in a question & answer session with attendees. The discussion, moderated by Mr. Sebright, outlined how healthcare technology companies can collaborate in new ways with U.S. and U.A.E. hospitals and healthcare institutions amidst this pandemic. The conversation also focused on how AI and IOT can maximize efficiencies in the healthcare industry.
The video call was attended by nearly 200 senior executives from leading American and Emirati hospitals, healthcare organizations, law firms, technology enablers, medical device providers, and pharmaceutical companies as well as by U.S. and U.A.E. government officials.
Mr. Sebright concluded the call by thanking the speakers and attendees for their participation, and their shared commitment to providing healthcare solutions at this time of crisis.
