Washington D.C. luncheon celebrating DIFC’s 10 year anniversary

The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council will host His Excellency Essa Kazim, Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), as well as U.S. Treasury Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing Daniel Glaser in honor of DIFC’s 10 year anniversary, on Thursday, October 9th in Washington, D.C. The lunch event will provide public and private sector stakeholders with an opportunity to listen and reflect on DIFC’s achievements over the past 10 years. The program will explore DIFC’s future direction and strategy in line with senior leadership plans for increased engagement with the broader U.A.E. finance sector, U.S. financial entities, and key partners in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. His Excellency Essa Abdulfattah Kazim
Governor
Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC)

H.E. Essa Kazim is the Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Chairman of Borse Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Financial Market (DFM), Deputy Chairman of Supreme Legislation Committee in Dubai and a member in Dubai Supreme Fiscal Committee.

H.E. Essa Kazim began his career as a Senior Analyst in the Research and Statistics Department of the UAE Central Bank in 1988 and then moved to the Dubai Department of Economic Development as Director of Planning and Development in 1993. He was then appointed as Director General of the DFM from 1999 to 2006.

H.E. Essa Kazim holds an honorary Doctorate from Coe College, a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Iowa, a Masters Degree in Total Quality Management from the University of Wollongong and A Bachelor degree from Coe College.

H.E. Essa Kazim currently sits on a number of official advisory committees and boards; he is Member of the Higher Board of Directors of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Chairman of DIFC Authority Board of Directors, Chairman of DIFC Investments Board of Directors, Board Member of Dubai Economic Council, Board Member of NASDAQ Dubai, Board Member of Noor Bank, Board Member of NASDAQ OMX, Member of the Board of Etisalat, and Member of the Board and Secretary General of Dubai Islamic Economy Development Center.

H.E. Essa Kazim also serves as a board member for a number of educational institutions, both in the region and around the world.

 

Daniel Glaser
Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing
U.S. Department of the Treasury

Daniel L. Glaser was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 27, 2011 to serve as Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing in the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. As Assistant Secretary, Glaser is responsible for helping to formulate and coordinate the counterterrorist financing and anti-money laundering policies and strategies for the Department.

Glaser has served as Treasury’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes since November 2004. He was responsible for developing and coordinating policies to protect the U.S. and international financial systems from abuse related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Glaser also served since 2001 as the Head of the U.S. Delegation to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the premier international anti-money laundering and counterterrorism financing body.

Prior to that position, Glaser served as the first Director of the Treasury Department’s Executive Office of Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes and as Senior Counsel for Financial Crimes in the Office of the General Counsel. He also served as an attorney for the U.S. Secret Service. Glaser began his career as an associate in the law firm of Coudert Brothers. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the Columbia University School of Law.
