The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council will host U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Puneet Talwar for a luncheon and discussion in Washington, D.C. The event will provide a unique opportunity for industry stakeholders to hear Assistant Secretary Talwar’s perspectives on the United States-United Arab Emirates strategic, military, and commercial defense relationship. In advance of the AUSA trade show in Washington, D.C. in October and the IDEX defense exposition in Abu, Dhabi in February, A/S Talwar’s remarks will provide a useful update on the current contours of U.S.-U.A.E. relationship.  For your information, Assistant Secretary Talwar’s biography can be found below.

AS TalwarPuneet Talwar was appointed Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs on April 9, 2014. Assistant Secretary Talwar manages several critical components of U.S. foreign policy, including the maintenance of the State Department’s global security relationships, the provision of international security assistance, the negotiation of international security agreements, and the implementation of the President’s Export Control Reform Initiative. Mr. Talwar is also the State Department’s principal liaison with the Department of Defense. From 2009-2014, Mr. Talwar served as the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Iraq, Iran, and the Gulf States at the White House National Security Council. From 1995-1999 and 2001-2008, Mr. Talwar was the Chief Middle East Advisor to Vice President Biden on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He also served on the State Department’s Policy Planning Staff from 1999-2001, and was a foreign policy advisor in the House of Representatives. He holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.
