The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted a senior-level U.A.E. healthcare delegation for a roundtable luncheon and policy discussion with U.S. companies on the 27th of March in Washington, D.C. The event took place as part of the delegation’s visit to Washington, D.C. for a series of bilateral meetings with U.S. government officials on potential areas of new partnership.

The delegation, led by H.E. Dr. Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary at the U.A.E. Ministry of Health and Prevention, included senior U.A.E. officials from the Ministry of Economy, Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company.

Senior officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi, and the U.A.E. Embassy in Washington, D.C. also participated in this discussion, which was attended by a select group of executives from leading American hospitals, as well as pharmaceutical and technology companies, and law firms.

After U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council Vice President David Greenhalgh welcomed attendees, Thomas Bruns, Regional Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Abu Dhabi, introduced the guest of honor, Dr. Amin Al Amiri.

Dr. Al Amiri emphasized the U.A.E.’s continued interest in developing world-class healthcare services, including improved access to cutting-edge treatment options and pharmaceuticals. He then went on to provide a brief overview of U.A.E. healthcare institutions, and detail why the U.A.E. expects to more than double the size of its healthcare sector by 2025. Before closing his remarks, Dr. Al Amiri cited several specific examples of Ministry of Health and Prevention collaboration with U.S. companies, noting the strength of U.S.-U.A.E. ties in the healthcare sector, and inviting the assembled guests to directly engage the Ministry about supporting their activities in the U.A.E. market.

The roundtable discussion provided an opportunity for other members of the delegation to also present their respective institutions’ overall healthcare strategy to attendees.

Following the presentation, representatives of U.S. companies got to directly engage with the delegation to discuss how American firms can become more involved in the U.A.E.’s growing healthcare sector.
