(New York City, New York) — The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council is pleased to congratulate His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World, who was recognized as a distinguished Honoree at the 19th annual International Maritime Hall of Fame Annual Awards Reception and Dinner on Wednesday, May 9th at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.
His Excellency was honored at the event for his visionary leadership role in the development and expansion of DP World and Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and his numerous contributions to the global maritime industry. His Excellency was joined at the ceremony by His Excellency Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Executive Officer of DP World and Co-Vice Chairman of the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, senior executives from DP World, global maritime officials, and representatives from government and industry.

Also honored at the dinner were Matthew K. Rose, Chairman & CEO of BNSF Railway Company; Joseph C. Curto, President of the New York Shipping Association, Inc. (NYSA); and Spyros Polemis, Chairman & Managing Director of Seacrest Shipping Co., Ltd. The annual award, given by the Maritime Association of the Port of New York/New Jersey (MAPONY), is “presented to visionaries of the 21st Century who through excellence in their company, organization, services exemplify the qualities of futuristic thinking in the maritime industry.”

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has served as Chairman of the Board of DP World since 2007. Previously, he served as Chairman of Dubai World and in this role oversaw businesses across several industries including real estate development, hospitality, retail, e-commerce and various commodities exchanges, transportation, and logistics. His Excellency has more than 25 years’ of experience in the marine terminal industry, is Chairman of Port & Free Zone World FZE and is a leading Dubai and international businessman.
