Mohamed bin Zayed meets with US President

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces met today at the White House with President Barack Obama at the beginning of a two-day visit to the United States during which he will meet with senior officials.

Sheikh Mohamed conveyed to President Obama condolences of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the victims of Boston incidents and his wishes of speedy recovery to the injured.

Sheikh Mohamed said: “the UAE condemns this act of terror and stands by all countries of the world against all acts of terrorism, regardless of their sources or motives.” President Obama asked Sheikh Mohammed to pass on his greetings to Sheikh Khalifa and his thanks for the feelings of sympathy expressed by the UAE leadership for the victims and the injured in Boston incident.

The meeting which was attended by the UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, touched on the bilateral ties between the UAE and the United States and ways to enhance them to serve the mutual interest of the two friendly countries and peoples.

The two sides discussed initiatives that will further enhance the bilateral trade relationship, and encourage economic growth and opportunity. They underscored the importance of the ongoing close consultations, cooperation and coordination in all domains to further strengthen relations of cooperation and friendship between the UAE and the USA.

Sheikh Mohamed exchanged views with the US President on the latest regional and international development, as well as international initiatives and efforts to promote peace, stability and development in the Middle East.

During his visit, Sheikh Mohamed also met with the US Vice President Joseph Biden and discussed with him the strong ties and shared interests between the UAE and the USA.

According to recently released US government data, the UAE is ranked among the US’ fastest growing trading partners. Total bilateral trade between the two countries grew from approximately $4.5 billion in 2002 to $24.8 billion in 2012.

While in Washington on his two-day visit, the Crown Prince will also meet with senior US government officials and members of the Congress.

The Crown Prince is being accompanied on his visit by UAE Foreign Minister His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Crown Prince Court Undersecretary Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, and UAE Ambassador to Washington Yousef Al Otaiba.

In their meeting today at the White House, President Obama and the UAE’s Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed their commitment to the strong partnership and friendship between their two countries.

The Crown Prince expressed his condolences for those who were affected by yesterday’s attack in Boston.

The two leaders highlighted the expanding ties between the United States and the UAE, reflecting common strategic interests. The Crown Prince thanked President Obama for the United States’ leadership in the region, including the President’s efforts to advance peace, security, and opportunity in the Middle East.

The President and Crown Prince pledged to sustain the expanding economic ties between the United States and the UAE, noting that the UAE remains the United States’ largest export market in the Middle East and a significant investor in the United States. The President commended the UAE for hosting the successful Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Dubai last December, and both leaders highlighted the importance of fostering broad-based economic opportunity in the region, particularly for young people. They also discussed the relationships the UAE is building with leading U.S. institutions, including in education, health care, and the arts.

The President and Crown Prince also reaffirmed their shared commitment to close defense and security cooperation, including joint training exercises, counterterrorism cooperation and the deployment of interoperable U.S. defense systems. The President expressed appreciation for the UAE’s contributions to NATO missions in Afghanistan and Libya. The President and the Crown Prince also discussed a range of regional challenges, including the need for Iran to meet its international obligations with respect to its nuclear program, the ongoing conflict in Syria, and countering the threat of violent extremism.

The President and Crown Prince pledged to continue to deepen the U.S.-UAE partnership through close and regular consultations between the two countries. A photo of the meeting can be found HERE.

The Vice President underscored the continued strength of our friendship with the UAE, and thanked the Crown Prince for the UAE’s contributions to security and prosperity in the Middle East. The Crown Prince expressed his gratitude for the Obama Administration’s steadfast leadership in the region. The two leaders discussed a broad range of regional issues of mutual interest, and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening economic and defense ties between their two countries. The Vice President and the Crown Prince agreed to continue to advance the close coordination between the United States and the UAE.
