The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council and ADIO convened a lunch on January 10th in honor of a visiting delegation of U.A.E. healthcare officials led by the Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Hamed. This working lunch with representatives of local California hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and technology firms took place at the DLA Piper office in San Francisco on the sidelines of the 41st Annual JP Morgan Healthcare Conference.

H.E. Sheikh Abdulla al Hamed and his colleagues from Department of Health – Abu Dhabi spoke about progress in Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector and the opportunities for partnerships with leading U.S. hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, medical technology companies, and other healthcare institutions. H.E. stressed that Abu Dhabi has become a global leader in setting a new pace for rapid and efficient regulatory approvals, something industry values greatly especially with regard to innovation.

Representatives from Mubadala Healthcare led by Emily Hill, Senior Vice President, shared insights on the current investment ecosystem regarding healthcare in Abu Dhabi, especially in light of the recent fusion of Mubadala Healthcare and G42 Healthcare into one entity. These developments in Abu Dhabi are facilitating further integration of the latest technologies into the U.A.E.’s healthcare services and research. They also spoke of Mubadala Healthcare’s efforts to boost the U.A.E.’s life sciences sector, including an initiative announced this week to establish a new biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant in the U.A.E. operated by Resilience, a U.S.-based technology manufacturing company.

Attendees on the U.S. side discussed their companies’ cutting-edge initiatives such as new molecule development and genome research, as well as their goals for expanding relationships in the U.A.E. healthcare sector. Additionally, representatives from JP Morgan noted the incredible investor interest overall in the healthcare sector both in the U.S. and abroad.

The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council will convene its members for a number of roundtable discussions with U.A.E. healthcare leadership on the sidelines of Arab Health 2023.
