As part of the visit of His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, U.A.E. Special Envoy for Climate Change, to New York City for U.N. General Assembly meetings focused on climate change, the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council hosted a private, closed-door briefing on 23 September on COP28 for select executives from key U.S. member companies at the U.A.E. Mission to the U.N. The U.A.E. is slated to host COP28 in November 2023 at Expo City Dubai. This briefing led by U.A.E. Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi was meant to give U.S. business an advance look at how they might support and take part in COP28.

The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council is a key interlocutor between the U.A.E. government and the U.S. business community in support of COP28.

Over the next 14 months, the Business Council will spearhead a variety of high-profile events, working group meetings, and reports that will culminate in an array of activities during COP28 itself, including a networking reception, CEO dinner, and panels that showcase American innovation.

This builds on the longstanding activities of the Business Council’s “Climate Change Working Group,” which the Council established in early 2021, following the appointment of H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber as the U.A.E.’s Special Envoy for Climate.  This working group has since hosted numerous events and activities, including with the U.A.E. Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, U.A.E. Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, U.A.E. Ministry of Economy, and the offices of the U.A.E. Special Envoy for Climate Change and U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change.
