The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council will host an exclusive discussion over lunch with Dr. Philip Gordon, Special Assistant to the President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf Region,on March 4th in Washington, D.C. The event will provide a unique opportunity for private and public sector stakeholders to hear Dr. Gordon discuss the Administration’s engagement with the U.A.E. and his thoughts on the impact of regional geopolitical and economic trends on U.S. business in the Middle East. Dr. Philip Gordon is Special Assistant to the President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf Region. He assumed his current position on March 11, 2013 and participated in President Obama’s historic trip to Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Amman later that month. As White House Middle East Coordinator his wide-ranging responsibilities include the challenges and opportunities faced by the United States in Egypt, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria, and the Gulf. He is a core member of the President and Secretary of State John Kerry’s teams responsible for Middle East peace as well as nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Prior to joining the National Security Staff, Dr. Gordon served as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from May 2009 through March 2013.

Dr. Gordon has previously served as a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC; Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council; and Senior Fellow, International Institute for Strategic Studies, London.

He has a Ph.D. and M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. from Ohio University. Dr. Gordon is the author of numerous books and articles on international relations and foreign policy and he has been a frequent contributor on Middle Eastern and other issues to major publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, International Herald Tribune, and Financial Times.
