The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council is to host a luncheon and discussion on Tuesday, June 26th featuring keynote remarks by:

The Honorable Michael H. Corbin

And an introduction to:

Incoming United States Consul General to Dubai

During the luncheon discussion, Ambassador Corbin will provide keynote remarks and discuss the broad contours of the U.S.-U.A.E. relationship and, more specifically, provide an update on the vibrant business and trade relationship between the two countries.

Ambassador Corbin will also introduce Mr. Rob Waller, incoming U.S. Consul General to Dubai, who will assume his duties in Dubai in July.  In his introductory comments, Mr. Waller will provide some insight into his professional mission and personal objectives as the new U.S. Consul General to Dubai.  Following Mr. Waller’s comments, the floor will be opened for a question and answer session. The Honorable Michael H. Corbin

Michael H. Corbin arrived in the United Arab Emirates on July 27, 2011.  He was nominated as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates by President Barack Obama on May 5, 2011.  His nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 30, and he was sworn in by Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William J. Burns on July 25.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. Prior to this assignment, he was Minister-Counselor for Political-Military Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad from 2008 to 2009 and Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria from 2006 to 2008.

Ambassador Corbin served as Minister Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo from 2003 to 2006. He was Deputy Director of the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs from 2001 to 2003. Ambassador Corbin served as Director of the Counter-Narcotics Section at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela from 1997 to 2001 and Political-Military Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt from 1994 to 1997. His first overseas post was at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait City, Kuwait from 1987 to 1989. Ambassador Corbin joined the Foreign Service in 1985.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ambassador Corbin served in the Peace Corps from 1982 to 1984 in Mauritania. He received a bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College.

Rob Waller
Incoming United States Consul General to Dubai
U.S. Department of State

Rob Waller will begin duty as the United States Consul General to Dubai in July 2012.  A member of the U.S. Foreign Service since 1998, he previously served as the Director for Israeli, Palestinian, and Jordanian Affairs on the National Security Staff at the White House.

Mr. Waller’s overseas assignments include service at the U.S. Consulates in Jeddah and Jerusalem, and at the U.S. Embassies in Paris and Baghdad.  In Washington, he has served as Deputy Director of the Office of European Regional Security and Political-Military Affairs, as a Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State and the Under Secretary for Political Affairs, and as Desk Officer for Iran.

Mr. Waller grew up in Missouri.  He holds a BA in Near Eastern Studies from Brigham Young University, and a DPhil in Mediterranean Studies from King’s College, London.  In 2010 he received the State Department’s James Clement Dunn Award for Excellence in mid-career officers.  He speaks Arabic, French, and Spanish.
